Iron Arena

Mission Statement

TRAINING (not to be confused with merely "working out") is the formulation and implementation of an exercise and diet plan intended to achieve a specific goal.
Training requires three key elements:

  1. The establishment of a goal
  2. An intended plan of action
  3. A Positive attitude

Once committed, training becomes an integral component of one's life. Simply completing a workout is failure. Conquering a workout is victory.
Regardless of one's age, gender, ethnicity, profession or social status, the training environment does not discriminate, nor does it play favorites. We are limited only by our level of commitment. We get out of it what we put in to it.

The Art of the Back Squat

From vpxsports.com on 5/11/12

Squatting, when done correctly, is not only a demanding movement that will strengthen and put a good amount of muscle on your entire body, it's an art. The key to getting the most out of this exercise is proper depth.  Contrary to commercial gym belief, simply positioning a loaded barbell on your back and bending your knees approximately 10 degrees is NOT a squat. By doing so you are neglecting both your hamstring and gluteal muscles since such a shallow knee bend calls solely upon your quadriceps to do most of the work.
